Ron Tonkin, Associate Counsel

 

Ronald H. Tonkin has practiced law for over 42 years through his private practices and government service having served as Attorney General for the U.S. Virgin Islands as well as serving as Special Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the United States. His areas of practice include Criminal Law, Employment Law, Administrative Law (Federal MSPB), Civic Rights (EEOC), Appellate Law, and General Civil Practice.

Experience: Law clerk to U.S. District Judge Alexander Holtzoff, Washington, D.C., 1962-1964; Law clerk to U.S. District Judge Walter A. Gordon, Virgin Islands, 1964-1966; Private practice of law, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, 1966-1971; Attorney General Virgin Islands, 1971-1973; Special Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the United States (Office of Drug Abuse Law Enforcement), 1973; Special Assistant U.S. Attorney and Assistant U.S. Attorney, Southern District of Texas, Chief, Major Narcotics Conspiracy Section, 1973-1976; Private practice of law, Houston, Texas, 1976 to present.

Areas of Practice: Criminal law (federal and state); employment law (federal and state); administrative law (federal-Merit Systems Protection Board); civil rights (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission); appellate law (federal and state); general civil practice.

Awards: Recipient of U.S. Attorney General’s Special Commendations Award for Outstanding Service, December, 1975.

Personal: Ron Tonkin is a Co-Founder of LEOAC and married to Phyllis Tonkin (psychotherapist) and they have four children and two grandchildren.
